Silk produced in Japan used to be a presence that, although a luxury, fit deep into the everyday lives of the Japanese. That tradition appears to be quietly fading into history, as, under pressure from inexpensive imported silk, the role it has played since modernization to the present day seems to be awaiting its curtain call.Build a Twentieth-Century Silk RoadThis project is an endeavor to create a new spin for the inherent value of Japanese silk, which is now produced in only small quantities and has become almost a rarity, and to bring its unquestionable quality into the future. For this effort to be successful, we think it necessary to transform the industry of traditional silk to living-in-the-present silk.Just as one thread of raw silk is woven into thousands and tens of thousands of threads to create fine fabrics, we hope our project will grow, in which encounters with people and with material are woven into new products and new projects.
